The 400
The most powerful of the Vostro desktops is the 400 Mini Tower. This offers the performance and flexibility to help a business run smoothly even when it develops and expands.
The main feature that allows this is the scope to customize the Vostro 400 with exactly what you want. Moreover, the Vostro 400 is fitted with the software that you order: there is no unwanted, space-consuming trialware.
Operating system
In keeping with this philosophy, there is a choice of operating system for the Vostro 400 although Windows Vista® Business is likely to be the frontrunner. This has Microsoft's latest developments for the business user. Alternatives include Windows® XP Professional and Windows Vista® Ultimate.
Processor
Allied to the operating system is a choice of Intel® dual core processors. These help give the Vostro 400 its adaptability, power and reliability.
Memory and graphics
The system memory is up to 4GB. This allows you to take full advantage of the processor and perform a number of different tasks on the Vostro 400 without slowing response times.
The graphics are similarly powerful and mean that any related software –design packages, for example – reach their full potential.
Media card reader
Dell's 13-in-1 Media Card Reader is an invaluable feature. By using the reader, you can transfer information to the Vostro 400 from 13 different flash card formats, including those found in cameras and MP3 players.
The Vostro 400 also has a set of ten USB ports. This number ensures that there will never be a problem connecting items such as keyboards, monitors and printers.
Storage and security
The Vostro 400's standard hard drive has 320GB of storage. This capacity is substantial but you can expand it further to a maximum of 1TB (1 trillion bytes) by installing two hard drives of 500GB each.
Monitors
The smallest monitor available with the Vostro 400 is a 19" flat panel. But the 24" display gives the extra clarity and detail that are useful features for graphics work, drawings and picture-in-picture applications.
Service and support
In business, one of the most important aspects of a computer is the manufacturer's service and support. This is why Dell has a set of business specific tools that include a support centre, online data backup and a year's next business day repair service.
In this way, Dell meets user demand and provides a computer that suits a business run from home as well as an office-based concern.
