I have collected some expressions and explanations to different terms used in
blackjack.
Dealer: The casino official who deals the cards
Player: The one who plays against the dealer
Blackjack: The combination of a ten (or other face card with the value of
ten) and an ace (gives 3:2)
Face card: Any card that ranges between 10-A
Bust: Term used for loss. Every time the number exceeds 21, it's a bust.
The Shoe: The box that contains the decks of cards.
Soft: The term used for a hand which doesn't contain any face cards (but can
contain an A)
Stand: If you feel you do not want another card, you stand.
Hit: If you feel you do need another card, you hit.
Double down: If you feel that you only need one more card you can double
your bet.
Split: If you have two twin cards you can split them up into two single
cards and hit on both.
Multi-Hand Blackjack: Allows you to take more than one player seat at the
table and play more hands at the same time.
European Blackjack: Blackjack which is played with only 2 decks of cards.
Atlantic city Blackjack: Blackjack which is played with 8 decks of cards.
Card Counting: The term used for keeping an idea of the ratio of face cards
vs. low cards in the deck to calculate if the odds are with or against you.
21: The cards add up to 21 (this is NOT the same as having a BLACKJACK hand)
