It seems to me--and some others, naturally--that life is filled with a lot of little strange things, happenings, call them coincidence, or call them nothing, because the term you need doesn't exist, and, from that point you could really get deep into the linguistic relativity principle and how language structures reality, etc., but more so, how it's in our power to redefine reality through language; though, as it stands, unfortunately, that language would have to be poetry. Now, I say unfortunately...and ya'll already know I think poetry is wonderful....but, unfortunately because I'd like to see civilization get to the point where individual citizens submit new words and definitions, and, through some process of voting, these words get introduced into the English language; and, thus, new concepts exist and new ways of thinking evolve: and, this extraordinary power, truly, perhaps the greatest power there is, would exist in the hands of the populace in a democratic fashion.
I can tell you right now that the way the American racial lexicon is structured (and, it's no accident that it's structured as it is) prevents a lot of people from figuring out some very commonsense things concerning the history of so-called miscegenation, heritage, identity, etc .This is a rich, deep subject that I've written about elsewhere, and I could go on and on, but, not at the moment. I'm going to have to do that at a different point, because, I'm headed out to NJ tomorrow morning, and I just don't have the time...
At any rate, at work today, I'm sitting there, watching the world pass me by (or so it feels), and, for whatever reason, I find myself thinking about the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. Why? I have no idea why. I haven't seen the movie in probably twenty years. But, I'm thinking about a few scenes from it. Then, a tiny bit later, I'm walking through the video section, and one of the mini dvd players happens to be playing that movie. Many would say this is just a coincidence, and, perhaps they are right. But, notice this...the word coincidence exists!
