Are you sure this Million Dollar Homepage guy, Alex Tew (creator of the original Million Dollar Homepage), isn't an American? I mean, come on now, what could be more American than a Mega Mall of Advertising Banners all crammed together with no apparent organizational planning onto a giant Virtual Ad Billboard selling anything any crackpot with a few extra greenbacks has to offer and is willing to gamble on a seemingly impossible and absurd marketing scheme? Nothing could be more American, I tell ya. But, guess what? It seems to be working, just like that crazy idea somebody had for linking all computers together with that thing, what's it called? Oh yeah, the internet.
What is it about the Million Dollar Homepage that works? Is it the sheer volume of advertising on one page? Is it the interesting visual patterns created by the random juxtaposition of so many disparate logos and colors and graphics? Is it the seemingly naive notion that some regular guy with a crazy scheme can overcome all the odds and rise above the seething cauldron of internet marketing schemes and get their site noticed my millions of people? Is it the fun and games of scrolling around the page and seeing what fools would invest in such a crazy scheme? Is it the extreme variety of "businesses" advertising on the site? Is it the fact that the money was for a cause? The answer is yes! It's all of the above and more and some intangible factors that most regular folk can't put their collective fingers on.
Will all, or some, of the copycat sites that are trying to get on the Million Dollar Homepage bandwagon suceed? I, for one, hope so because this idea is fresh and it comes out of left field like all great ideas.
So I say; Rock On Million Dollar Homepage sites! Be a part of the great American tradition of "Mom, Internet Marketing and Apple Pie".
