We played many games during our childhood, and lagori was one among them. In this game there were 2 teams. There were many children in our neighbourhood and we always played together, all of us, boys and girls, even though our parents used to have regular arguments and fights on water supply,animal entering into each others territory and spoiling their crops or plants. We never felt any difference between boys and girls. So in our lagori team also all boys and girls were mixed.
From team 1 one selected person would come forward and aim from a fixed distance to the set of tiles arranged neatly. That person had three chances. If he was out or didnt hit the tiles with three chances then it was team2 in charge of aiming. If the person hit the tiles it is the job of rest of the members to arrange the scattered tiles and keep it back in the position. Boys were very good in throwing and aiming the ball. We used to copy them in all things like try to hit as hard as possible but we girls used to end up with only patches or red mark of a ball hit very hard by them. Even after getting hurt badly we still enjoyed playing all the time with these boys. One thing I liked about all these boys was that they never underestimated us or told us that we are girls and not capable of playing with them. They used to take us willingly in their group. One reason must be that they were into games like cricket, kabbadi, lagoori and hide and seek which needed all of us.
